Artist Martin Kullik will do a short talk about his project - Steinbeisser.

Currently we are in preparation to set up a pilot of the project Steinbeisser in Amsterdam, the projects opening date is set for the 1st of October 2011 and running until the 31st of December 2011. Steinbeisser projects an interdisciplinary dialogue between the applied arts - such as contemporary jewellery and fashion (clothing and bags, belts, hats, scarfs, shoes, etc.) -, fine arts - such as photography and video - and performing arts - such as contemporary dance, improvisation, performance and theater.

In the project we intend to develop for each chapter a program of exhibitions and performances, spotlight events and gallery-shop showcase. My beloved teachers and similar…

I have a couple of things I would like to communicate:
First.
I’m sorry for missing most of the classes last week. The reason is that I was sick at home with an infection in my throat. Angina. Fever, weakness, headache…I tried many days to come but at night I was feeling even worst. I told my house mates to tell you all about my health but I also wanted to send an e-mail personally. I hope all of you understand.

Second.
I would like to invite you to my RWP suicide. I already tried to follow many different alternatives to heal my infection: I ate lots of raw garlic, took propolis, thyme, squeezed lemon, equinaccea, ginger… but I reject taking antibiotics again. I cannot see the solution to my desperation, so I will publicly commit some kind of rebirth suicide in the frame of a Lunch Performance.

Don’t try to make me change my mind. It’s irrevocable...
And don't worry, it is still a Real Work in Process.

SHOCK is a dance work conceived and directed by David Zambrano, with a collaboration of an international cast of 12 dancers.
Through specific movements and the relations in between the dancers questions are raised: can we make our dance immortal, or eternal, as we pass through this life and beyond? Can we dance until we are ready to die and even beyond death? Themes of extreme transformation between states and energies carry through the line of: life and death, thermal and kinetic energy, potential energy transformed in free fall, electric shocks, and the unpredictable resilience with which cartoon characters illustrate these states.
The work of David Zambrano is genuine and has a respect in the international dance-world. He is a bridge-builder and his work crosses borders over different cultures and circuits, as well in his choreographies as in his teaching programs as in the choice of the dancers with whom he is working. Through his extensive experience he has a special sense what is happening in the world and what is going on in the dance-world.
SHOCK is a step further in Zambrano’s artistic quest, which is to get to know his full potential for communicating with his body as an image, beyond the power of words.

Gabriel Brito Nunes, the 4th year student, in dialogue with Gabriel Smeets, the director of SNDO, about his recent internship period in Indonesia.
Brito Nunes will share the reasons why he chose to concentrate most of his 'stage' in the world's largest archipelago state. And how his research on Indonesian 'cross gender' traditions has enriched the process of his upcoming performance, entitled The Transanima Project.
He'll also be showing image excerpts of the work of his main sponsor, cross gender artist Didik Nini Thowok, and of other creative performing artists and artists of life he encountered in his trip.

My recent last piece was lived as a failure but as an important step for my process. It was and remains important to me to acknowledge what was the core of the last works I made, and my situation as a maker. It is in this way that I want to improve.How do I gather an audience to make the moment of performing alive. How do I fail in this attempt? I want to build something over to cover the emptiness of movement, to give importance to this moment before the unavoidable end.

Making a performance is a lot like creating a meal. The idea of a good meal is:
It is an interesting collective experience, which continues after we cleared the table from the dishes. If we just want something to feed physical hunger or have something tasty we can get it at any corner. The ingredients of a meal are the materials we want to use. We find them at the Noordermarkt in Abert Hein in a private garden or in the garbage can. We use them, because it is the season, because they are cheap, because we are addicted to them, because we or nobody used them before. We start to relate them with each other to understand what the general topic could be. With that topic in mind we start to collect again until we are complete. The collection allows us to start composing and to develop a recipe. We can start cooking. If we wait to long, the material is not fresh any more. We need good tools and the knowledge how to use them. One Chinese word for cooking means: The art of cutting. It is all about how we treat our material, if we want to transform it into the new reality.

Tip: If we cook to spicy we can’t taste the material anymore. The dish looses its identity.

While cooking a complex dish we need a good concept to lead us on the one hand but also openness for the process of creation. The history of invention is always also a history of failing and the use unexpected side effects. The result from the cooking is a meal consisting of a row of dishes. How do we serve it? Should it be beautiful? Is beauty important?

We can serve the dish in a way, that the food gives some visual information before the taste will tell its own story to the nose and the tong. A meal is a long duration ritual. The dramaturgy of the dishes tries to play with expectation, to please and to provoke the senses, to satisfy unknown desires. To build that dramaturgy we need to know a lot about the eaters. Where do they come from? Are they hungry or tired? Will they show up in time? What did they do before? What are their plans for the night?

We can isolate the eaters to create a concentration on the individual perception. We can place them around a table so that conversation can inspire the experience. We can separate them from their friends to change their context. We can serve different dishes so that they start to be envious or share with each other. We can also separate the cooked materials like in a post modern performance on a buffet, so that the eaters can compose the meal themselves on their plates. Our signature as a maker is than in danger to fade.

Some eaters need to identify a cook for the perception of a meal as a subject to identify with the statements of the meal.
